YOUR MINDFULNESS WORKOUT ROUTINE:

The central focus of the program is intensive training in mindfulness meditation and the integration of these skills into everyday life. The program is highly experiential and involves a progression of skills. Both those with a prior meditation practice and those with no prior experience of meditation have benefited from taking the course.

We specifically focus on investigating the stress reactivity cycle and changing our relationship to stressors in our lives. Innate skills of mind and attention are strengthened - in order to be able to draw on these skills more consistently. Using mindfulness, our actions and decisions have the potential to become conscious, more informed, deliberate, and less automatic or reactive.

This course runs for 8 weeks, during which we will meet once a week for 2.5 hours. One full day retreat will take place on a Saturday during the course. A commitment to 1 hour of daily home practices will be required throughout the course (20-45 minutes of mindfulness practice plus additional informal exercises for reflection throughout your day). Throughout the 8 weeks, the instructor guides the individual through their own learning within the group process.

HISTORY & RESEARCH

MBSR was originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the UMass Medical Center in 1979 - introducing mindfulness meditation into mainstream medicine. Over 30 years of clinical and neuroscience research have found MBSR to positively impact pain, anxiety, depression, inflammation, and a variety of physical conditions that are exacerbated by stress.

Entry into MBSR requires completion of an intake form (emailed to you following receipt of registration) and a 30 minute phone or in-person pre-course intake meeting to assess whether it is the right time to participate in MBSR. Sasha will discuss expectations and needs with you.
